Professionalizing Zen - Professionalizing Public Health
April 19, 2011 at 7:03 One of my teacher's raises an interesting question on professionalizing zen teachers. I tend to agree with the trend he seems to be following. I am fortunate to be involved in working with Boundless Way Zen and the struggles there on these issues point seem to reflect struggles I've noticed in public health education and training.
I have been clear in my support of profiessionalizing public health and what it means to call oneself a "public health worker" or to work in the public health sector. The stream that James describes, the resistance reminds me of resistance I've felt in public health communities. It reminds me of the work of APHA and, while it functions as a membership organization, does not represent a community seeking professionalization. Zen and public health aren't too related. There are themes though.
His post is worth the read.
