NIH app. deadline, Metal rings on Soto juzu, & other things on the mind
May 5, 2011 at 8:42 As my deadline for my R21 application approaches several things on the mind and updated topics:
- Ai Weiwei's zodiac sculpture opens in New York. Ai Weiwei still not heard from since his arrest.
- Apparently Connecticut is poised for layoffs of state workers. I don't think professors will be impacted but expect it will, if done, decimate the morale and efficiency of my department.
- Why do the instructions (the SF424) for NIH grant applications have to be nearly 200 pages with no index or reasonable table of contents? My R21 application has a page limit of about 7 pages of serious text about specific aims and research strategy. I'm spending most of my time doing budget, prep and compliance work because of previous cuts in my department and lack of support time.
- New Company or fix the Old Company. I'm volunteering to sit on the board of directors for a non-profit. The books need work. Try and fix them or simply start a new Quickbooks company file?
- I cannot find an answer: why is there a metal ring on Soto Zen juzu?
Back to my application.
